Summary Of Appointments

We offer the following types of appointment:

1. ADVANCED - CAN BE BOOKED UP TO 4 WEEKS IN ADVANCE WITH A SPECIFIC DOCTOR/NURSE
2. ROUTINE - CAN BE BOOKED WITH THE NEXT AVAILABLE DOCTOR OR NURSE
3. URGENT - CAN BE BOOKED ON THE DAY WITH THE "EMERGENCY" DOCTOR OR NURSE - FOR URGENT PROBLEMS ONLY

This surgery runs an appointment system for our patients.

There is a finite number of appointments available in the different categories; once all of these have been booked you will be offered the next available routine appointment.

Appointments are always available on the day for emergency medical conditions.

The doctors and nurses work at both surgeries on a rota system.

Advice regarding emergency / same day appointments

• These are for patients who have a problem which cannot wait for a routine appointment eg an acute illness or an unwell child

• These are not for routine problems eg review of medication, routine blood pressure checks

Advice regarding booking a routine appointment

• If you have a repeat prescription and it has been indicated that you need to make an appointment - do this when you pick up your last prescription ie 3 weeks before you need more medication

• Plan ahead for routine health checks eg blood pressure, medication, travel advice

• If the doctor asks for you to make another appointment - please ensure that you do this at least one week before he/she requested to see you

• If you have had a blood test, x-rays or other investigation - ask the receptionist to check that the result is available before booking your appointment, as an appointment may not be required

• If you want an appointment with a specific doctor it is important that you book in advance

• If you are unsure as to whether you need to see a doctor or nurse you can always ask to speak to the nurse or ask for the nurse or doctor to phone you

• If you are unsure as to whether you need an appointment and as to the urgency of the need, you can always discuss this with the receptionist in confidence - they are very experienced and can guide you through the system

• If you have forms to be completed - bring these into the surgery and ask to speak to the secretary as an appointment is often not required

• If you no longer need an appointment please ensure that this is cancelled so that it can be offered to another patient

• During holiday periods - the pressure on appointments is increased and therefore those which can be pre-booked are often taken early
